Stroke

People Suck (in particular the justice system)

February 17, 2011 by carol anne 3 Comments

*throws hands in air and exclaims*

There is no justice in the world!

Seriously? Are you fucking kidding me?

The monsters who beat up an Upper Darby 13-year-old kid and recorded it for You Tube have been released to their parents’ custody. Their only punishment is probation and community service.  The police took them out of school in handcuffs in an attempt to make a supposed example of them and then the justice system lets them off with a slap on the wrist. These monsters dragged their 13-year-old victim through the snow, beat him, hung him from a fence and then put him in a tree all the while recording it for You Tube.

I’d imagine a video recorded by the assailants is pretty concrete and damming evidence. Wouldn’t you? So why is it that the most serious charges against 5 of the 7 scumbags were dropped because they admitted to their roles in the attack. *beats head on desk* There is a recording of the attack made by the attackers. It’s not like prosecutors needed anyone to give up anyone else. They had them all on tape. *shakes head*

Probation and community service. Way to make an example of them. (an example of how to get away with brutality)

In Other There is No Justice News …

Vince Neil of Motley Crue bagan serving a 15-day sentence at a Nevada detention center for his 2nd DUI arrest. How he could ever get  behind the wheel again after any amount of liquor is absolutely beyond me. Actually, it’s morally reprehensible. His first DUI came in 1984 when the resulting crash killed his passenger Nicholas “Razzle” Dingley and caused life altering injuries to the two people in the other car. For this offense he was sentenced to 30 days in jail, of which he served 15 days.

This time he managed not to kill or injure anyone. Again he got off with a slap on the wrist, a 15 day sentence. He’s hoping to serve less than the full 15 days. In recent interviews he’s declared his intention to do everything in his power to get time off for good behavior. *beats head on desk* Seriously. Oh.my.God! Even if he actually serves all 15 days of this sentence he’ll have served exactly 1 month of time for 2 DUI arrests; 1 resulting in the 1 death and 2 life-altering injuries. *shakes head*

Did you hear? Piers Morgan and Oprah Winfrey were competing to see who would score an interview with Michael Vick first. Oprah won but Vick has since cancelled his Oprah appearance. Could it be because he can’t pass muster? Could it be that he’s been saying and doing all the right things because he’s been coached by PR folks and team officials and can’t stand on his own to answer Oprah’s questions? An honestly contrite man would be able to go on national TV and give an honest interview. He obviously can’t. It seriously blows my mind that an animal like Vick is regarded as an NFL superstar and is a coveted interview for not one but two celebrity interviewers.

I don’t get it. There are mandatory minimum sentences for drug offenses yet 5 (the 17-year-old has a separate hearing later) monsters who beat, humiliated and tortured a classmate go free. A two-time DUI offender, who caused 1 death and 2 life-altering injuries serves 30 days combined (maybe less). An animal who tortured and murdered dogs in addition to profiting from a dog fighting enterprise served 18 months in a federal prison and missed 2 football seasons is once again an NFL superstar and coveted interview. I seriously don’t get it. I really don’t.

And Then Tonight …

I’m reading Blogher and I come across a mention of Serena Branson, the reporter who suffered a stroke or TIA live on camera the night of the Grammy Awards. In the comments section someone reports that the video of her news report has been posted on Funny or Die. It’s sickening that anyone would mock someone having an episode of any sort.

I had a TIA in October. I was in the hospital recovering from surgery to remove cancer from my scalp. It was the day that I’d had the dressing from my head removed.

I was a nervous wreck all day and then so relieved that it was over. I was relaxing after dinner with my husband in my hospital room. I was suddenly overcome with an overwhelming anxiety and my hand started to twitch. My face felt funny so I went to look in the bathroom mirror and my mouth was drooping. By the time I came back out to tell my husband, I couldn’t talk right and then just like that it was over.

They sent me down for a CAT scan right away and by the next day we knew my episode was a TIA. The neurosurgeon said it could most definitely happen again or that it also may not. The uncertainty of when or if is terrifying. Every little twitch every little anything sends me in to fits of panic for fear that it’s another one or worse.

How anyone could find that funny is beyond me.
