New Jersey

National Photo Month (day 26)

May 26, 2012 by carol anne Leave a Comment

This photo was taken the day after a horribly cold, wet, stormy October night. We were in Cape May for a Ghost Tour with Craig McManus, a psychic medium and author of The Ghosts of Cape May books, but I was sick and it was cold and stormy and wet so we opted to stay in lest I catch my death of a cold and end up one of the ghosts of Cape May.

The next day was one of those bright, beautiful, crisp fall days you read about in tourism pamphlets and so we ventured out of our hotel room. This is one of my most favorite photos. At the time I was working on capturing the sun reflecting on the ocean. It’s not quite perfect but it remains one of my most favorite photos. This was taken with my first point & shoot digital camera, a Fujifilm FinePix A500. (October 26, 2006)

Sunset Beach, Cape May Point, NJ

April 6, 2012 (Good Friday)

We went to the ocean today. I figure that you can be no closer to God than you are at the water’s edge. The object you see out in the water is the sunken remains of the USS Atlantus, an experimental concrete ship from World War I.

Updated: A New Bird in Town (Can Anyone Identify Him?)

March 8, 2012 by carol anne 2 Comments

UPDATED: Our bird friend has been identified, he/she is a non breeding European Starling.

I’ve just recently started seeing these birds out back. They appeared after I put out a suet feeder that I bought at Walmart. I’m not even sure what kind of suet it is. I was trying to attract smaller birds like finches.

I’ve had a regular birdseed bird feeder out back for years and this is the first time I’ve ever seen these birds. I normally see them 2 at time together.

It took forever to get a photo. I finally managed not to scare this one away this morning. I looked all through my New Jersey birds book and cannot seem to place these guys. Does anyone have any idea what species of bird this is?
