European Starling

Updated: A New Bird in Town (Can Anyone Identify Him?)

March 8, 2012 by carol anne 2 Comments

UPDATED: Our bird friend has been identified, he/she is a non breeding European Starling.

I’ve just recently started seeing these birds out back. They appeared after I put out a suet feeder that I bought at Walmart. I’m not even sure what kind of suet it is. I was trying to attract smaller birds like finches.

I’ve had a regular birdseed bird feeder out back for years and this is the first time I’ve ever seen these birds. I normally see them 2 at time together.

It took forever to get a photo. I finally managed not to scare this one away this morning. I looked all through my New Jersey birds book and cannot seem to place these guys. Does anyone have any idea what species of bird this is?
