Back Yard Birds for Jan. 28, 2015

January 28, 2015 by carol anne Leave a Comment

It’s been a while since I took photos of the backyard birds. Actually, truth be told, it’s been a while since we’ve had the feeders filled. A raccoon and hopefully not a human (because that would be creepy to have someone that close to my backdoor) took the suet feeder down and dragged it out of the yard. (yeah, it’s a stretch that an animal managed to drag a full suet feeder off a tree branch and drag it out of our yard, but I’m going with that theory so I can sleep at night) But it’s been bitter cold here as of late and I didn’t want the backyard gang to go hungry so we bought some seed and filled the feeders.

The yard has been full of Blue Jays, Dark-eyed Juncos, and House Finches. We’ve also seen some chickadees and Titmice but I haven’t been able to get any usable photos of them.

Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge Book One: I’m With the Band

January 18, 2015 by carol anne Leave a Comment

I am participating in the Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge, (reading the books mentioned during the 7 seasons of Gilmore Girls) the first book I made the choice to read was I’m With the Band by Pamela Des Barres. I chose it because I thought I’d start the year with a light, fun, trashy read and I was surprised to find it was anything but. I actually felt sorry for most, if not all who were profiled in the book, including Pamela. I was surprised at how much heartbreak and being used and abused she endured. I was very much surprised that she wasn’t a tough bitch who could handle herself or a light and airy type who flitted from one guy to another without forming attachments.

It was also heartbreaking to read about the sorrowful broken rock stars and aspiring rock stars who moved in and out of her life. At the conclusion of the book she goes on to list those who’ve passed on and how. In the end I felt this read like a tragic tale of heartbreak and a reminder that those who burn brightest often do so because tortured — no matter how beautiful or talented they are — souls live so very much in darkness.

To sum up, this wasn’t the trashy book I’d hoped to read. Instead it was a very raw and very honest depiction of a time and a place and of a subculture that started out innocently enough and became something else much darker.

Day 13 — A Pop of (blue) Color

I am unusually happy with today’s photo.
Shot with 60mm macro lens, 22 second exposure, f/32 aperture
Slight crop at bottom and on right side otherwise straight out of the camera

"Blue M & M in lights"

Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen can I have your attention please? This is what happens when you’re too lazy to go out the car to retrieve your tripod and you want to take pictures of bright lights in a dark room. This is a total oops yet oddly enjoyable to look at.

"Abstract Art?"
