I think this is a great photo but I cannot get the background to blur. I just cannot figure out what it is that I am doing wrong. What am I doing wrong?
I used my 60mm macro lens.
I used my tripod.
I created a white backdrop with paper towels.
I used a white paper towel to reflect the light.
I positioned the doll directly under the under cabinet light.
I used a flashlight to shine a light on the doll from the side.
I shot from less than one foot away. I shot from more than 3 feet away.
I shot from above eye level, below eye level, and at eye level.
I started with f2.8 and made my way up the aperture stops, this photo is f5.6.
try standing back and zooming in with macro…might work
I tried that too. I went back and tried more shots for another hour after I posted this and just couldn’t make it happen. I turned it in as one of my submissions for grading with the explanation I wrote here. I don’t care so much about the grade, well I do but I’m hoping my teacher can explain the how and why. Because school is about learning not about straight As right? *says the neurotic one*
for me, macro has always been a crap shoot…but when it *works* it’s so flippin’ cool!
All that techno-speak might as well have been greek to me. Whatever, she’s cool as hell.
