Editor’s Note: This post is late. The photo for today is late. I took the photo and am typing the post after 12midnight so technically I missed a day. I’m posting this with a September 7 date just to keep the flow correct. For the record it’s late because I watched the last episode of Rescue Me and was all weepy and teary-eyed afterwards and NO ONE wants to see that. NO ONE!
As I said above I watched the last episode of Rescue Me this evening. I loved the series. I think I may have missed 2 seasons but in the end I came back to it because I missed the characters. The show lasted 7 seasons, not many shows last that long these days. I grew attached to the characters much like I grew attached to the characters in M*A*S*H and The Wonder Years and The West Wing. When a series that has run this long ends it’s like reading the last page of a great book, you don’t want it to end. You want to know what became of Tommy. Did he stay sober? Did he eventually retire or die in a fire? We’ll never know.
God speed Tommy Gavin. I hope out there in the ether you manage to conquer your demons and hold close to you those who love you so very much. Say hello to Hawkeye and Jed Barlet for me. I hope they too have shouted down their demons and have found peace and comfort in the voices of their better angels. (I’m all weepy again)
