Day 237
In case you haven’t heard there’s a hurricane brewing out there in them waters. If it comes all the way up to NJ as a hurricane it’ll be historic. It is following the same path as the Great Atlantic Hurricane of 1944. *laughs* Of course 1944 was 28 years before I was so I don’t remember that.
However, I do remember Hurricane Floyd, which was actually a tropical storm by the time it reached us in NJ. I dug out this blog post entitled, The City Girl vs. The Hurricane. I wrote it in 1999. I was 26 at the time and new to the Internet so please excuse the immaturity. *laughs* It’s actually very me so perhaps I haven’t matured much since then. Enjoy!
The City Girl vs. the Hurricane
Greetings From Hurricane Alley !!!
hello all i’m back……… a little windblown and very, very wet but alive and well……
according to my weather guys we got over 7 1/2″ of rain and hey it’s still raining here so I got more…… nanny nanny pooh pooh on you mr. weather guy…… LOL !!! the weather guys name is are you ready ??????
ta da :
HURRICANE SCHWARTZ
original isn’t it though ???? He just lives for this crap, he was out of his mind happy in 1993 when we had that 30″ of snow… though he may not have been here then but happy as a clam nonetheless cause he’s a self professed weather junkie… LOL !!!
<and I thought I had no life>
I got to leave work at 1pm <see Marna I got untrapped and managed to take Chuck with me, I’d never leave him all alone, we’re a team> with Chuck in tow…. his company let all of their eastern seaboard offices go home early today…. so that their employees would make it home safely and live to work another day… Kind of them don’t you think ???? Now my assistant was really very bugged that i got to leave and she didn’t but she does live just minutes and a trolley ride away from work as opposed to my hour long drive to work on 3 highways and a bridge …… i always let her leave early when it’s slow, she tried to screw me and say she had no way home either so either both of us should stay or neither should go……. *just wait and see if she goes home early any time soon* She will never have another early dismissal day again if i’ve got anything to do with it… sheesh… the cut throat world of business…
we made it over the bridges and highways safely to arrive home to find electricity… YAAAAAAAAAAY !!!!!!!!!! Did i ever tell you all that this 26 (almost 27) year old is afraid of the dark ?????? call me a baby call me a wuss but well, I am afraid of the dark…. so the electricity being on was a major plus… Woo Hoo !!!
Oh and they never did close the bridges… it was all a rumor <probably made up by berm so he could go home, LOL !!!>
OUR CURRENT CONDITIONS
the news people keep saying the storm is over and the radar <the keep showing it, like if they show it enough it’ll make it true> says it has stopped and I’ve seen with my own eyes tv news people down at the beach where it is neither windy nor rainy, buuuutttttt if you looked out my window right now you’d see pouring rain, not the vicious pouring rain of early, but pouring nonetheless… you’d see winds blowing so hard my neighbors fence is coming away from the wall and is in danger of blowing into my yard … right in front of my sliding glass doors, but the weather people on all three network news channels no less keep telling me that it’s over so i’m gonna bury my head in the sand believe ’em, but i just went and looked and it’s still raining and blowing and Ron’s<my neighbor, who by the way throws things at the wall all evening and slams doors to announce he has arrived home safely yet again, he’s a strange fellow> fence still looks as if it’s eyeing my yard for it’s new home…. which is okay as long as it pays rent, LOL !!!!
speaking of taking up space my priceless endangered uh …. protected buggie is still living in my garage.. I didn’t have the heart to cast the poor fellow out into the raging hurricane so he’s still in my garage … of course all the while i’m pondering how to get him out…. LOL !!! His day is coming , i’m gonna serve him his eviction notice tomorrow morning…….. now if I could only figure out how….
Speaking of tomorrow we’ve gotta be in by 6am so for anyone who’s around early morning i’ll look for you in sweet’s chat room….or on IM…
okay back to the weather report…… darkness is fast approaching and with that i’m hoping comes and end to the winds…. I’ve got a strawberry and a vanilla candle burning just in case we do lose power, but so far so good……… Sorry I had to run on you Angel, the lights were flickering and I was afraid to leave the computer on….but thank you so much for our wonderful conversation earlier today…… I enjoyed it so much and it took my mind off our impending doom….
Rachel, I’m sorry i cut you short but it was time for me to get off the computer and shut down so as not to blow it up if the power did go off.
did i mention that at this very moment in the delaware valley
<NJ, DE, PA> where i live there are 104,000 people without electricity. and that I am still hoping that the winds will die down and i will not join this rather non exclusive party…. LOL !!!
B-Nice thank you so much for your worried reply to my mail. I’m sorry to have scared you but honored and humbled that you cared so much…
Christina I got a good laugh out of Brian’s being bummed there was no McDonald’s open…. He’s got a good sense of humor … lol !!
joie de vie if you will…… We ordered pizza for dinner and miraculously they delivered… ~happy smiles~ :O) but as I was ordering all I could think of was your dear beloved Brian….
~more happy smiles ~ :O)
I don’t hear it raining anymore so i’m gonna go ahead and assume that it has indeed stopped…. wooo hoooo !!!!! Thank God for a swift end to the storm they are billing as the storm of the century…. I think the news media is getting carried away with this whole century and millennium thing … don’t you ???? But I am grateful for having made it home okay to my home and that all my loved ones are also tucked safely in their homes this evening as well…… I hope you all are safe and warm as well……….
Thank you all so much for listening………typing these two letters helped me more than you will all ever know…..
love and glitter kisses,
carol anne

__________
Good Morning peeps . . .
It’s a beautiful morning here in NJ, actually truth be told it’s actually still dark here in NJ the sun is not yet up…. But I have to tell you all what a difference 24 hours makes. We left the house at like 5am today to come to work and I have to tell you I have never ever seen a more beautiful sky than this mornings……… Every star in the heavens was out and shining beautifully… I think maybe even Venus was visible this early morning. The sky was a beautiful shade of midnight blue and all the clouds are gone from the sky…. The air is beautiful, clean , crisp and cool… and smells so clean….
I am always amazed at how clean and beautiful the world is after a big storm… It’s almost as if the storm is there purposely to cleanse all the ickiness out of the atmosphere….
But i just wanted to let everybody know we fared pretty well, thank God…only a few puddles in the basement. We were very, very lucky… This was my first hurricane living out of the city and in this new house so I am very grateful that my little blue house was not damaged and that we made it home to be with it during the storm…. We had a few random power outages that lasted minutes as opposed to the days that some will be without …… we were very, very fortunate and blessed to have been spared the true wrath of Floyd which I actually think became a tropical storm while it was over us…
I just wanted to thank you all again for letting me ramble at you for the past two days and ask you all to please take a moment and pray for those who were not as fortunate as we were so lucky to be. Families lost everything in floods , they had trees fall on their houses , and most especially those who lost loved ones. There were two little girls in Delaware <the next state below Jersey> pulled into a storm drain who drowned… It was tragic to watch the news this morning and see the devastation that Floyd did cause in neighboring states and in Jersey as well. I’m grateful we were spared but my heart goes out to those who were not so fortunate….please say a prayer that those people don’t have too much difficulty putting their lives back together…
Oh but as disheartening as it was to see the damage it was amazing to see the heroics of those who went to another’s aid…. I’m very glad to see that that kind of honor has not left the world… Many, many volunteers did many wonderful things yesterday and I’m sure we will never even know most of their names…. ~smiles~ I again have faith in humanity……
Okay take care… Have safe and happy days all….
with much love,
a very relieved carol anne
I LOVE Hurricane Schwartz! He’s the only reason I watch the news.
My mother loves Hurricane Schwartz! I don’t watch channel 10 so I almost never see his forecasts anymore. LOL
