Edited to add commentary on Saturday afternoon July 16.
I was exhausted when I posted this last night so all I could muster was posting yesterday’s photo. I had an appointment with my Oncologist on Friday morning and so I had to be up early to go to work with Chuck so he could leave in the middle of the morning and then come back in order to use as few hours as possible.
My appointment with Dr. Hughes was uneventful and I was greeted with hugs and warm hellos from my nurses Tricia and Pat. It was good to see everyone. I’m coming along nicely. There’s some skin at the top of my head that must come off. *shudder* Gross, I know. I’ll need to soak my head twice daily with a washrag soaked in diluted baby shampoo.
Other than that all my vitals were good. All my motor functions checked out okay, could stick my tongue out move it side to side, I could push and pull on her hands, there was no weakness in my hands, and I could push out with my legs. I have to be back in about a month to have my head checked. Before that I have to have the MRI of my head and neck to check for residual cancer and I have to see Dr. Bussey, my neurosurgeon.
I think I mentioned above that I went to work with Chuck yesterday so I had an hour and a half to kill before I had to be at my appointment. I got myself a cheese danish at Au Bon Pain and an iced caramel macchiato at Starbucks then made my way to Liberty Place where I found a nice spot in the shade at a table with an umbrella right outside of Au Bon Pain. I spent 90 lovely minutes enjoying my danish and coffee while I read my book in the cool morning air. *sigh* It was a welcome change of pace and change of scenery.
After my appointment I went back to Center City with Chuck. Before making my way to my parents’ house I stopped to buy a coconut cupcake and took a walk on Chestnut Street. I’d have eaten lunch at DiBruno Brothers but it was the height of the lunch rush and they wouldn’t have had the pizza I wanted for at least 20 minutes. I’ll admit, it’s been a while since I was in a big crowd alone and it was kind of intimidating so I opted not to wait and just made my way to mom’s. I caught the bus from Center City to South Philly for the first time in at least 2 years. It was seriously one of the most enjoyable days I’ve had in a long time.
I’m sorry I didn’t get around to writing this until this morning. I don’t like posting photo only blogs but it was all I was up to last night. Thank you for stopping by every day. I love you all.
