Good evening my dear little lambs. I hope tonight finds you all well. Tonight’s post is all about red tape, crazy privacy laws and medical forms. As you all know I have an upcoming appointment with the Dermatologist. I have to be checked for skin cancer anywhere else on my body. I most likely do have other spots. There’s a spot on my nose that my mom has also had skin cancer at and I have a spot on my arm that also may be something.
The office requests that you fill out all the forms before you get to the office for your appointment so I had Chuck print them for me. I took a few minutes to fill them out this morning.
One of the forms is the the Patient Consent for Use and Disclosure of Protected Health Information form. On this form you’re You’re agreeing or not agreeing to whom information should be shared. Basically you’re agreeing or not agreeing to whether or not they can leave test results on your answering machine or with someone who answers your home phone. You are also given the option to not allow your lab results be shared with anyone other than yourself.
The directions read, If you do not give consent please check all boxes below that apply. The two boxes basically read do not leave results on my answering machine or family members and do not discuss results with anyone other than myself.
However, the sentence that follows the two boxes reads, HOWEVER, THE PRACTICE IS NOT REQUIRED TO TO AGREE TO MY REQUESTED RESTRICTIONS , BUT IF IT DOES IT IS BOUND BY THIS AGREEMENT.
*beats head on desk*
Huh? What? Why then am I filling this form out? Why then are you offering you the opportunity to not give my consent if you you could then say nope, no way?
This is the kind of stuff that leaves me shaking my head in disbelief. Red tape and bureaucracy, gotta love it.
Thanks for stopping by. I love you all.
