Let me go on record as saying that I believe that life begins at conception. I also believe that what I believe is not what you believe and that what you believe is not what the person next to you believes.
After getting sick I’ve learned that you just never know what can happen. You have no idea what tomorrow can bring. I believe that life begins at conception but I cannot honestly tell you that I would never have an abortion. I’ve never carried a baby but I’m quite certain if it came down to me or the baby that I was carrying surviving I’d probably want it to be me that was given the opportunity to live on. There are those who believe my life is not as valuable as the life I’d be carrying and they want to make laws to prevent me from choosing my life. Here is where my problem with those people begins. I’m totally okay with how you choose to live your life just as long as you’re okay with how I choose to live my life.
I’m disgusted with the politicians who chose to hold the country hostage over funding for Planned Parenthood, an organization that cannot use federal funds for abortions and for whom abortions make up only 3% of the services provided. I am a woman, I have a uterus and I vote. I pay attention to politics and I’ll remember this during the next election.
I’m also irritated that the Democrats’ mantra of late seems to be, “See we compromised with the big bad Republicans just for you. Aren’t we wonderful?” Um, well, in a word, no. @MSignorile said on Twitter, “It all went exactly according to GOP plan: Demand super super extreme agenda, then settle for merely super extreme agenda.” Well not to put too fine a point on it, but yeah, that’s how negotiating works start high and work your way to the middle. The question is why didn’t the Democrats negotiate more successfully? Why didn’t they push their agenda harder? *calls the Dems aside* Psssstttt … here’s a useful bit of info my dear little Congressional Democrats … I voted for you. Basically I hired you to represent my interests. If you don’t start doing so I’m going to fire you the first chance I get. That goes for you too President Obama.
Speaking of President Obama, I watched his short speech to the nation about the agreement reached this evening. I almost had a fit of apoplexy listening to him talk about yet another compromise and tell a mind-numbing story about an 8th grade class from Colorado who will now be able to see the sights in D.C. on their class trip next week because the government will remain open. *beats head on laptop* Oh my God! Seriously? First off I truly believe he was talking just to talk and saying absolutely nothing. And then the best he can give us is his relief that an 8th grade class will be able to see the sights. Oh my God! This is shades of George W. Bush and his statement that he gave up golfing in deference to the families of the soldiers dying in 2 wars. President Obama, how about being relieved that our soldiers will continue to get paid or that small business loans will continue to be processed or that tax refunds will be processed in a timely manner? I honestly don’t care about an 8th grade class’ class trip.
I’m seriously at the point of wishing for another Democrat to run against and beat President Obama in the primary because I’m not happy with him; although I can’t think of anyone including President Obama that I’d vote for. I most certainly don’t want a Republican to run the country but the Dems seem awfully thin on strong leaders with strong backbones. I would have been okay with a brief government shut down if I felt like the democrats were working toward representing my interests rather than just trying to survive the Republicans’ onslaught of demands.
I just keep asking myself why don’t the folks elected by the people of this country have the people’s best interests at heart? I can’t stand that the people running this country are more interested in political posturing and voting along party lines than making the sure the country runs in an efficient, safe and fair manner. There’s a quote from The American President where the fictional president, Andrew Shepherd says, “I was so busy keeping my job I forgot to do my job.” I’m so over politicians making themselves busy running for reelection from the time they take office and not actually executing the duties of their job. In the Gettysburg Address Abraham Lincoln says, “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” It’s kind of a shame that in all honesty it’s no longer government for the people by the people but instead millionaires concerned only with growing still richer shilling for big business and special interest groups. I’m disgusted and annoyed.
Sleep easy kids, Congress made sure the government is open for business tonight. I’m just not sure what business they’re in.
